Important Message:

Given the directive from FGCU to host all course instruction online for the Summer 2020 academic semester, students are encouraged to engage in and/or pursue virtual service-learning experiences.  However, for students who are comfortable doing so, and are able to stay consistent with the Florida Governor’s Roadmap for Re-Opening (pg 11) and national CDC guidelines, in-person opportunities are also available.  If you reside in a state other than Florida, be sure to follow your local, state, and national guidelines.

Service-learning resources and specific opportunities can be found here:

The Service-Learning Staff will be working remotely for this period of time.  Please direct any questions or concerns to  Our team will be available during regular business hours to meet individually as needed by appointment via phone or video chat.

Students enrolled in service-learning courses will be asked to acknowledge the following statement:
Safety Participation: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I acknowledge there are additional risks in participating in face-to-face experiential learning and that I have been made aware of these risks and have been provided remote alternatives to in-person experiences, and have chosen to voluntarily engage in face-to-face experiential learning instead of the remote learning opportunities.  In participating in the in-person experiential opportunity, I agree to comply with the facility’s directions and CDC guidelines regarding personal protective equipment and social distancing and assume the risks of engaging in this activity.

Service-Learning Database

The database is a resource for students developing service-learning opportunities and faculty teaching service-learning courses. The agencies listed are not the only agencies that are appropriate for service-learning but they already have developed a relationship with FGCU, are pre-approved for service-learning, have an understanding of what service-learning means, and what activities students can do to fulfill their service-learning hours.

All agencies listed in our database are nonprofit, not-for-profit, or a governmental organization.

There are two ways to search for an approved agency:

  • Search for the name of the organization, such as Harry Chapin Food Bank
  • Some organization names are listed under the letter "T" for the word "the". For example, The Talkin' Monkeys Project, The Salvation Army.

Search Alphabetically

  • Search by location such as, Lee County, Collier County, Charlotte County, etc.
  • Search by job type such as, environment, education, social services, health, FGCU campus, legal services, marketing, etc.
