Rosann M. Spiegel, JD, DNAP, CRNA, APRN was appointed as an Assistant Professor and
the Program Director of the Nurse Anesthesiology Program at FGCU in 2014. Dr. Spiegel
has been a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) since 1987 and a licensed
attorney in the state of Florida since 2005. Dr. Spiegel is a member of the American
Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists,
the Organizational Leadership Network of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing,
and Sigma Theta Tau – Tau Zeta Chapter and has held appointed and elected positions
at state and national levels. From 2005 to 2006, she served as an Assistant Public
Defender for the Law Offices of the Public Defender for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit
of Florida and received an award for Loyalty, Dedication to the Cause of Justice,
and Outstanding Contribution. From 2006 to 2011, she was in private practice as a
trial lawyer primarily representing claimants in disability insurance disputes in
state and federal courts. Dr. Spiegel has been an invited speaker on a variety of
legal, ethical, and clinical topics at local, state, and national professional meetings.
Dr. Spiegel has more than 34 years of clinical practice experience providing a broad
scope of anesthesia care for populations across the lifespan, and her specific interest
and clinical expertise is providing anesthesia care for those undergoing cardiac,
thoracic, and major vascular surgical procedures.

Toggle Research and Teaching InterestsDr. Spiegel's scholarly activities are aimed at improving health care quality, access,
and value by ensuring student success and addressing local, state, and national critical
workforce needs in advanced practice nursing. Dr. Spiegel has designed workforce quality
improvement programs that focus on forming academic-practice partnerships, authored
and submitted external grant proposals, and received federal awards under Health Resources
& Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) programs. The goals
of these BHW projects are aimed at increasing the national workforce distribution
of advanced practice nurses in underserved and rural areas, increasing the number
of diverse and culturally competent advanced practice nurses in the workforce, and
transforming health care delivery by increasing the number of advanced practice nurses
who are well qualified to practice independently within collaborative, interprofessional
teams.
