Holocaust Commemorative Week

The month of April is filled with anniversary dates relating to genocide: April 6, 1994 (Rwanda), April 6, 1992 (Bosnia), April 17, 1975 (Cambodia), and April 24, 1915 (Armenia). On April 19, 1943 the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began during World War II; this is now commemorated, according to the Hebrew calendar of 27 Nisan, as Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial Day). FGCU will mark the month of April with our own commemorative week, starting this year on Monday April 1 and ending on April 5. The event features presentations from Jessica Evers, MA Associate Director of the Center, Professor Elisa von Joeden-Forgey from Stockton University, Professor Alex Alvarex from Northern Arizona University, and Dr. Paul Bartrop, Director of the Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

The event is open to the public.
