As Honors College Director, it is a joy to work with students, faculty, and staff to help students make the most of their FGCU experience and achieve their long-term goals. I am originally from Richmond, KY with degrees in English from the University of South Carolina (Ph.D.), Eastern Kentucky University (MA), and the University of Kentucky (BA). My primary area of research is the culture of the American South, particularly its music, literature, and religion. I am currently writing a book on the music history of Clarksdale, Mississippi. I love spending time with my family and exploring the natural beauty of Southwest Florida.

I joined the FGCU faculty in July 2019 as Associate Director of the Honors College and Professor of Philosophy. A specialist in the philosophy of mind and theory of knowledge, I also work in the areas of Chinese thought and Japanese aesthetics while maintaining an abiding interest in ethics, political philosophy, and creative writing. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching and playing tennis and soccer, and visiting the beach.

Hailing from New Jersey, I received my BA in history and political science from Boston College. I then graduated with my Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from the Richard Stockton University. Recently, I earned my Ph.D. in History from American University. It was at AU where I fell in love with fellowship advising. I moved to Florida in 2017 where I served as the Assistant Director for External and Competitive Scholarships at Rollins College. Now, I am excited to take on this new role as Director of Competitive Scholarships at FGCU. Aside from my academic pursuits, I am a runner, classically trained singer, board game enthusiast, and globally ranked Pokémon Go trainer.

Being a member of the Honors College team has been such as great experience. As Office Manager, I do work typically behind the scenes: maintaining the Honors budget, organizing travel for faculty and students, as well as managing the Honors Development Funds. I came to southwest Florida from southwest Pennsylvania, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with a Minor in Leadership Studies from California University of Pennsylvania, where I was also Director of the Internship Center. It was there that I found my passion – working with and helping students reach their potential academically as well as professionally, which is why I am so happy to be here at FGCU working with our outstanding students.

I am so excited to be a part of the Honors College team at FGCU! As Programs Assistant, I am most looking forward to interacting with students and helping them make the most of their college experience. I am originally from Bainbridge, Georgia and spent my college years at Young Harris College where I received my B.A. in Theatre Performance in 2016. I was involved in many departments on campus where I was a Tour Guide in the Admissions office, a START Freshman Orientation Leader and an Alumni Ambassador. I also had the pleasure of working at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for two years. In my spare time, I enjoy going to see musicals and plays, watching movies, exercising and spending time with my husband.
